This statement has been prepared to help those with disabilities to decide whether our accommodation will be accessible to them.

We realize it is not only disabled people who benefit from inclusive access to buildings. Others who directly or indirectly benefit include the elderly, families with children under the age of five, careers and the friends and relatives who accompany people with disabilities.

· There is no lift in the building.

· The car park is immediately in front of the Westgate and it is flat, with a slight slope to one side of the car park.  There is a parking space for each guest room, near to the front door there is a parking space which can be made available for disabled guests.

· There is one step(13cm) when entering porch ( double doors-127cm), which has a seating area. A further step(9cm) when entering the main front door (84cm) the doorbell is situated on the left hand side (120cm) up. The front door leads directly into the bar lounge.

· Flooring throughout The Westgate is carpet, other than the ensuites which are all lino.

· The dining room & guest lounge are both on the ground floor.

· Televisions in both lounges have teletext so ‘subtitles’ can be used. The guest lounge has freeview and a DVD player for guests use.

·  A hand rail has been fitted on the stairs to the first floor. The stairs to the first floor are 16cm high, 27cm deep, 96cm wide, there are 13 steps to the half landing (211cmx140cm) and a further 7 steps to the first floor.  The second floor is slightly steeper and has 17 steps to the top floor.

· The Westgate has a ground, first and second floor. We have a double bedroom on the ground floor, all of our other bedrooms are on the first and second floors. All rooms benefit from en-suite shower rooms,  Kettles with tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryers, colour televisions with freeview, clock radio, luggage racks and seating.

· Assistance with luggage is available.

· Fire exits are clearly identified.

· We do not accept pets other than service dogs

· Directions to the Westgate are available on our web site or can be sent with a brochure.

· Wheelchair hire is available locally at "Shop mobility", Lymington Road, Torquay. (Next to the Library) 01803-380982. Booking is advisable.

· Public Transport: Torbay Ring & Ride 01803 201000.

· Buses – Stagecoach 01803 664500. We are on a bus route (no 32) and the bus stop is opposite our entrance. Timetables are available for guests

· Trains: Wales & West Disabled Journeys Helpline 0845 3003005. Torquay Station is suitable for disabled passenger but Torre Station is NOT suitable as it has difficult low platform access. we are in easy reach of Torquay train station
